Struggling to stay active by yourself? Try group exercise!
We all know that exercise is good for you. Especially as you get older, exercise is very important in maintaining strength, balance and coordination. It even helps to improve your mood.
But sometimes when you are by yourself, it can be hard to stay motivated and commit to regular exercise. Group exercise classes, both online or in-person, can be very beneficial.
Here are some reasons why group exercise may be just what you need:
Get social
Group exercise classes provide an opportunity to connect with people in your age group, you can have a chat before and after the session and spur each other on to complete that next rep or set. Even when online, you can chat with others in the group just as you would in a physical class. Socialising and staying connected with other people is very important for your mental health and wellbeing, so group exercise is a great way to get both physical and mental benefits at the same time!
Variety
Group exercise classes can range in style and focus, they can be tailored to meet your needs and the physiotherapist can offer variations to meet your capabilities. There are many different styles of group exercise classes, including general fitness classes, chair based strengthening classes & tai chi classes just to name a few.
Exercise safely
Although the physiotherapist will need to attend to all participants in the group, they will offer variations to each exercise to meet your individual capabilities to keep you safe. The exercises are designed to be completed safely without hands on help. We offer online group exercise classes run via Zoom, a popular video conferencing platform, so that you can complete the exercises from the safety of your own home.
Build routine
As opposed to solo exercises, group exercise classes occur at a set time which allows you to develop a routine around your exercise and ensures you will not miss or put off completing the exercise for that day.
Supportive
Especially during these COVID times, it is easy to feel alone and unmotivated to keep working towards your goals. Group exercise classes are filled with people in the same situation and provide a supportive environment to keep your energy levels up and cheer you on as you smash your goals!
So, what are you waiting for?
